Federal University Oye Ekiti

vc_fuoyeProfessor Kayode Soremekun is the new vice-chancellor, Federal University Oye-Ekiti. Until this appointment he was with the National Open University of Nigeria. Professor Soremekun had his Ph.D in International Relations with interest in the dynamics of petroleum energy in international policy and politics, at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria in 1984. He attained full professorship thereafter.Professor Soremekun is an editor of several books, including Governance and Democratization in Nigeria (1995) and Nigeria's Second Republic (1988), among numerous pr ofes- sional accomplishments and fellowships.

Academic institutions are established with the aim of meeting certain objectives and fulfilling specific purposes for human development. The essence of any formal or informal education is to produce an individual who will be a useful member of the society. Sound education should engender in the individual a disposition of personal autonomy, responsibility, innovation and a positive outlook on life.

The shortfall in university education and its challenges in meeting national development goals require cooperative and collaborative efforts. That positive effort in modern times will begin with the role played by major stakeholders like the Alumni.

Library does not mean merely a collection of books. It is a learned institution equipped with treasures of knowledge maintained, organized, and managed by trained personnel’s to educate the children, men and women continuously and assist in their self-improvement through an effective and prompt dissemination of information embodied in the resources. Libraries are regarded as agencies through which sources of information of accumulated knowledge and experiences are selected, acquired, organized, preserved and disseminated to those who need them (Shukla,  Singh and Mishra, 2013).
