FUOYE protest: Management raises hope of resumption ...Promises justice to students, says students' union activities remain suspended

fuoyeHope of resumption of normal academic activities was on Friday raised by the management of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) as the panel earlier set up to investigate events leading to the tragedy that greeted the September 10 bloody protest by the students, has submitted its report.

Two students of FUOYE, Joseph Okonufua and Dada Kehinde, were shot dead allegedly by security agents during a protest by the students to press home their demand for adequate power supply by the Benin Electricity  Distribution Company (BEDC) to the twin campuses of Ikole and Oye and their environs. 

A press statement on Friday from the office of FUOYE’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Geoffrey Bakji, said the university management team had paid warm visits to the parents of the deceased and had since put in place an investigative panel.

QUALITY BEGINS WITH ME… PROF. OBINNA CHUKWU

 qualityThe Academic Planning Unit held a one day workshop on Quality Assurance for all members of staff of the University. The theme of the workshop “Quality Assurance in higher education; issues and practices”. The convener of the workshop, Prof. Cecilia Akintayo, Director of Academic Planning, welcomed all and sundry to the event and declared the workshop open.

The workshop which held on 25th September, 2019 at Faculty of Science Auditorium had as it guest speaker Prof. Obinna Chukwu, Director of Academic Planning, University of Lagos and former Director, Quality Assurance and SERVICOM unit, University of Lagos. During his lecture, he mentioned that ‘quality assurance are all the planned and systematic activities implemented to provide confidence that a product or service will fulfill and maintain”. He spoke extensively on quality assurance in higher education and explained models to ensure that quality is guaranteed in the institution...

INT’L SCIENCE CONFERENCE : FUOYE PARTNERS S.A’ S VAAL VARSITY OF TECHNOLOGY ON RESEARCH

The Federal University Oye-Ekiti, (FUOYE)’s Faculty of Sciences has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), with South Africa (S. A)’s Vaal University of Technology (VUT), to enhance research, exchange of academic programmes and capacity building among staff and students of both institutions, among others.

The development was a concluding phase of the 2019 FUOYE International Science Conference, organised by the Faculty of sciences under the leadership of the Dean, Prof. Olayide Lawal, a Professor of Industrial and Macromolecular Chemistry. The conference, which held for two days, was themed: ” Innovation and Advancement in Nanonscience and Nanotechnology. Lead papers were delivered by Prof. Elizer Bobby Naidoo of Vaal University and Dr. Adekunle Adeyemi of FUOYE, department of mechatronics...
