Microbiology is the branch of biology that deals with microorganism and their effects on living organism. Microbiology also include the basic roles of microbes such as bacteria, fungi, viruses and pathogenic protozoa and basic biological mechanism involving microorganism such as DNA replication or regulation of protein synthesis.
Microbiology is a broad discipline encompassing specialties which focus on analysis in microbiology laboratory for safe handling including aseptic technique, isolation of microorganism from environment, analysis of microbial growth, their enumeration and identification.
Microbiology has different branches which include; medical microbiology, industrial, microbiology i.e.; pharmaceutical, petroleum, and food e.g., and research microbiology. The equipment used in microbiology laboratory include; microscope, Petri dishes, incubator, inoculating chamber, autoclave, oven, water bath, canister, slides, spirit lamb, loop e.t.c.
