It was another wonderful episode in the history of the Department of Theatre and Media Arts, Federal University, Oye- Ekiti, when they presented a stage play called “LANGBODO” as part of the ceremonies marking the award of Pillar of Theatre Arts (POTA) conferred on the wife of Ekiti State Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi by the department. The event took place on Wednesday March 5, 2014 at the University Main Auditorium.

Langbodo, is set in a certain distressed communityin need of solution to myriads of problems plaguing their existence. In this context emerges the leader whose zeal for success prompted the summoning of the young AKARA OOGUN (powerful hunter), who in turn solicits for and eventually presents to the entire populace a team of uniquely gifted hunters –Kako, Elegbede Ode, Olohun Iyo, EfoIye and Aramonda.

These hunters were collectively consecrated for a mission of returning to the community a certain archetypal symbol that would be or provide solution to all their problems.

But in the course of the voyage, several natural and ethereal challenges put up seemingly insurmountable challenges on their way as personalized in the first medium,Agbako, Egbere, Were orun, Sand Elves etc. In this situation, it must be notedthat in all their challenges were solution divinely suggested by either the Second Medium, benevolent spirits or compassionate mortals etc. The unique hunters on this expedition successfully overcame all obstacles when they lived beyond their personal sentiments.

The odyssey took them through six culturally endowed regions where peculiar challenges were met and triumphed over amidst obvious imbibing of the caution/ disciplinary lessons therein. The travelling hunters eventually got the supposed object of esteemed value against all odds only to be intimated by their most recurring challenger the Firstmedium who reminded them that in seizing the esteemed symbol, their sojourn was never beyond their immediate community. This therefore publicized the futility of such an odyssey – a feat to which the native of the community concurred to.

The play ended with the reconciliation by the community of all moral lessons the three surviving hunters shared with the larger populace in recommending the exact traits worth imbibing and the irrelevant ones worthy of rejection for the speedy growth of the community.

Langbodo as presented is an English version and drama adaptation of D.O Fagunwa’sOgbojuninu Igbo Irumale (literarily translated to mighty hunter in an occultic forest).                                         Erelu displaying the archetypal symbol of authority
