SERVICES OF ERRING FUOYE STAFF TERMINATED
Sequel to the staff unrest of 18 & 19 December 2014, as well as of Friday January 23 2015, a Panel of Investigation was instituted by Management of Federal University Oye-Ekiti, to look into these issues. For the records, some staff of the university on December18 and 192014, shut down the university, chased staff and students out of their offices and classrooms and even blocked the Ado- Okene Federal highway. Again on January 23, 2015 the same set of staff disrupted academic activities within the University and created pandemonium within the campuses of the University.
A statement following Management meeting of Friday 9th January2015, considered the terms of reference of the panel which included:
i. To determine the immediate and remote causes of the staff unrest and,
ii. To recommend measures to be taken to forestall future occurrence of such demonstration.
The Panel subsequently called for memoranda from members of staff within the context of its terms of reference. The Panel was further mandated to investigate the immediate and remote causes of the last unrest of January 23, 2015.
Staff involved in the unrests were duly invited and given opportunity to defend their actions and motivations before the Panel members. Testimonies were taken where necessary. At the end, the Panel submitted its report and Management met on February 9, 2015 to review the report and act on its recommendations.
Management after considering the report of the Panel, decided to discontinue with the services of the indicted staff. Consequently the services of ten (10) staff were terminated and offered one month salary in lieu of notice.
The affected staff are hereby advised to handover any University property in their custody to the Personnel Affairs Unit and to stay away from the campuses of the University in their best interests.
The University is not closed down. Staff and students are enjoined to go about their legitimate duties as the University will continue to frown at actions considered counter-productive to the existence of the young University.
