The FUOYE chapter of Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFST) has been inaugurated. NIFST is an umbrella body that supervises and regulates the activities of staff, students and professionals of Food Science and Technology.

The chairman, NIFST Western Chapter, Dr. Taofeek Shittu, observed that Food Science and Technology was both a discipline and a profession which stood to benefit students, academics and professional members. He assured that the inauguration would grant FUOYE Food and Science Technology Department recognition, not only in the western region, but also at the national level. The chairman also pointed out that there were two main categories of membership which included professional membership and licentiate. According to him, the
foremost criterion for membership is that one must be a trained Food Science and Technologist or come from similar disciplines or professions. Having officially declared FUOYE NIFST Chapter a bona fide branch of the national body, Dr. Shittu charged the members of the new chapter to network with other professionals locally and internationally to develop themselves and the profession.
