The FUOYE Governing Council held its inaugural meeting on June 3, 2015. The meeting took place in the vice chancellor's Conference Room with the Pro-chancellor and Chairman of Council, Engr. Bawa Magaji Kufana at the head of the meeting.Other external members of the Governing Council present were Chief Hon. Augustus Elliot Osomu, Mohammed Hamza, Mrs. Irene Chinwe Mbanefo and Dr. Yusuf Michael Omojo.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Isaac U. Asuzu led the Council members from within the university which included Secretary to Council and Registrar, Mr. Daniel Abiodun Adeyemo, acting Bursar, Mr. Obadiah Dyiltu, representatives of Senate in Council, Prof. Sylvia Uzochukwu and Prof. Olugbenga Amu. Prof Wole Atere was absent on the first day on permission duly acknowledged by the chairman but joined the team the second day. Representatives of Congregation in Council, Prof. Adeolu Aganga and Mrs. B. O. Obabire were in attendance.

The Chairman and Pro-chancellor, Engr. Bawa Magaji, assured the house that the Council would guarantee stability in the university, disclosing however that “not everything done in Council is for the market place.” He emphasized the need for Council members to engage the host communities, more importantly, the state government, and let them know that the university is here for them. He however cautioned against partisanship, reminding members that they were not politicians but people who have been called to serve the country in this capacity.

After the opening remarks, the Council members retired behind closed doors for business of the day.

They were later to emerge to undertake exhaustive tour of projects and facilities within the main campus as well as Ikole campus. All on-going project sites were visited and some contractors on site had a one-on-one with the Council members. Dean Faculty of Engineering and Director of ICT, Professor Christian Bolu had his hands full explaining lots about the projects and facilities at Ikole especially on the novel

Universal Testing Machine which was reputed to be the largest UTM in Nigeria at present. Acting Director, PPU, Engr. F. O. Adebayo, was also on hand to guide the visitors to the projects and offer explanations where sought.

The second day of the meeting saw the Council members pay a courtesy visit to the Executive Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Peter Ayodele Fayose. Later they were at the Palaces of the Oloye of Oye-Kingdom, Oba Michael Oluwole Ademolaju and the Elekole of Ikole Kingdom Oba James Adewumi Ajibade Fasiku. At both palaces the visitors were received with pomp and pageantry. Prayers were offered for the success of the Council and the university at each palace.
