SSANU INAUGURATES FUOYE INTERIM MANAGEMENT TEAM.
It was yet another day of colourful union activities at the FUOYE main auditorium as the national delegation of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), South-West zone, inaugurated a five-man provisional executive that would coordinate the course of SSANU activities in the young institution.
According to leader of the delegation, Mr. Alfred Jimoh, the pro tem officers were going to occupy five executive positions that would last for the remaining part of 2015, until the Union (FUOYE Chapter) established a well-defined structure that would enable it eventually run a full-fledged election in the coming year. These executive positions included offices of the chairman, executive secretary, financial secretary, treasurer and public relations officer.
Under a very animated atmosphere, nominations for the executive positions were zoned to the two campuses of Oye and Ikole to ensure proper representation and coordination. Offices of the executive secretary and financial secretary went to Ikole Campus while chairman, treasurer and PRO were zoned to the main campus.
At the end of nominations which was quite keen, the following persons emerged: Mr. Ayodele Olayiwola, Protem Chairman, Mr. Ademola Mutui, Executive Secretary, Mrs. Esan Oyemomi, Financial Secretary, Mr. Kolawole Samuel, Treasurer and Mr. Babafunso Awe, Public Relations Officer.
National Vice President, SSANU South-West Zone, Mr Jimoh charged the new executive to be ready to serve and to always create an open platform to listen to the needs and aspirations of its members rather than merely celebrate their victory. He further urged them to work harmoniously
with management of the university and never to see the union as an instrument of war and open confrontation against the young institution. After this charge, he conducted the swearing-in ceremony.
Addressing the newly sworn-in executive, then acting Registrar, FUOYE, Mr. Daniel A. Adeyemo, expressed satisfaction at the process that produced the new executive, which he described as free and fair. He stressed that any association that hoped to achieve its objectives should press home its needs legitimately, urging them to see the union as an instrument of dialogue and not as a mechanism for power.
Speaking on behalf of the new executive, the Chairman, Mr. Ayodele Olayiwola, expressed his profound gratitude to God for giving him such a huge platform to serve his colleagues and the union. He also thanked the organizers and leadership of SSANU at the national level as well as senior non-teaching members of staff for exhibiting high level of maturity during the process. In his words, “We, members of the executive, are not going to confront management but will display competence and consistency in getting whatever we deserve from management.” He finally promised to make the welfare of his members, his other members of the delegation include: Comrade A Salami, Zonal Secretary, Comrade K. T. Fashola, Zonal Treasurer, Comrade Taiwo Egberongbe, Chairman, OOU, Alhaji S. Shuaib, Chairman, Tai-Solarin University of Education, Comrade Mrs. O. BAdebayo, Treasurer Ekiti State University, Comrade I. K. Falade, Chairman EKSU, Comrade S. O. Afolabi, SSANU Scribe, EKSU, Comrade B. E. Adeoye, Financial Secretary, EKSU, Comrade Oluranil, S. A., Chairman, Institute of Agricultural Research and Training (IART), Comrade Wale Akinremi, Chairman, University of Ibadan and Comrade Aleshinloye, Chairman LAUTECH. The event took place on Thursday, May 21, 2015.
