Here are the excerpts of the parley;
Sir, can you let us in to the level of preparedness regarding the institution’s maiden convocation ceremony?
We have reached advanced stages in our level of preparation and this conference would serve as prelude to the major one coming up on 24 April, 2017. It is premised on sending teasers to the journalists as regards Fuoye’s maiden convocation. There would be a public lecture on salvaging the Nigerian Educational System presented by Director, Public Administration Studies of Nigeria, Professor Oladipo Ademolekun.
The university would also award various degrees to the two sets of graduates for the 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 academic year.
A stage play will be showcased by the renowned playwright, Professor. Rasaki .O. Bakare.
Award of honorary degrees to Mrs. Efunjoke Coker, the first indigenous principal of Queens’ College, Lagos. The second grammar school for Girls, in Nigeria.
Award of honorary degrees to two hundred educationists who contributed immensely to the development of education in Ekiti State. e g. Chief Daramola, astute teacher at Christ School, Ekiti State and Chief Akomolafe, pioneer principal of Ekiti Parapo College.
Could you kindly highlight major achievements of the university upon your assumption of office a year ago?
Uhmm, we have succeeded in creating three new additional Faculties and put in place nineteen new academic programmes. We also have enhanced infrastructures in the form of erecting new 500-seater lecture theatre and classrooms at Oye and Ikole campus. We have developed the curriculum for the establishment of the Faculty of Pharmacy. We have successfully matriculated 3410 students for the 2016/2017 academic session. Advanced efforts have been made to improve water and power supplies.
We have evolved collaboration between this young institution and the African Peace Network of the Social Science Research Council of New York. (APNSSRCN). This synergy would showcase the university in the global radar of scholarship, he said”.
The award of honorary degrees to personalities in their 90’s, is it a deliberate thing sir?
Not at all! I think we are poised to setting new moral standards for our society. We just want to remember and recognize these personalities for their immense contribution to education especially now that they are still alive rather than handing out honorary degrees to people just to elicit financial gratification from them.
