FUOYE protest: Management raises hope of resumption ...Promises justice to students, says students' union activities remain suspended

fuoyeHope of resumption of normal academic activities was on Friday raised by the management of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) as the panel earlier set up to investigate events leading to the tragedy that greeted the September 10 bloody protest by the students, has submitted its report.

Two students of FUOYE, Joseph Okonufua and Dada Kehinde, were shot dead allegedly by security agents during a protest by the students to press home their demand for adequate power supply by the Benin Electricity  Distribution Company (BEDC) to the twin campuses of Ikole and Oye and their environs. 

A press statement on Friday from the office of FUOYE’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Geoffrey Bakji, said the university management team had paid warm visits to the parents of the deceased and had since put in place an investigative panel.



“Our Digital Language Laboratory Has 59m Resources”, Says Opoola

dean of artsThe Dean, Faculty of Arts, Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), Dr. Tajudeen Opoola has said that the Digital Language Laboratory of his faculty has over 59 million e-books and e-journal.

Dr Opoola disclosed this in a recent interview with FUOYENews on Monday, February 24, 2020. He commended the university management under the leadership of Professor Kayode Soremekun for the generous assistance towards the upliftment of the faculty noting that, “Today the Faculty has one of the best and certainly the latest Digital Language Laboratory available anywhere in Africa for university education. Our language laboratory server is linked to the university’s network backbone”, he further revealed.

Dr Opoola who became the Dean on August 1, 2018 first in an acting capacity is also the Head of Department of Linguistic and Languages. He expresses immense gratitude to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Kayode Soremekun and his management team for the huge and numerous assistances to the faculty in academic program development, human resource development and infrastructural development.



 qualityThe Academic Planning Unit held a one day workshop on Quality Assurance for all members of staff of the University. The theme of the workshop “Quality Assurance in higher education; issues and practices”. The convener of the workshop, Prof. Cecilia Akintayo, Director of Academic Planning, welcomed all and sundry to the event and declared the workshop open.

The workshop which held on 25th September, 2019 at Faculty of Science Auditorium had as it guest speaker Prof. Obinna Chukwu, Director of Academic Planning, University of Lagos and former Director, Quality Assurance and SERVICOM unit, University of Lagos. During his lecture, he mentioned that ‘quality assurance are all the planned and systematic activities implemented to provide confidence that a product or service will fulfill and maintain”.
