The second semester sport fiesta came out in another dimension as both indoor and outdoor games were introduced for the first time in the history of the university.
The games included: Chess, Scrabble, Draft, Table Tennis, Football, and Country Race. In the beginning, the convener, Mr. J.O. Ogundele, Assistant Coach of the University, addressed both students and members of staff present. He announced that the games were organized in order to foster good relationship between staff and students of the University.
He stated further that this edition of the games was basically organized in order to discover talented athletes that could represent the University at indoor and field games in the forthcoming Ekiti State Higher Institutions Games (ESHIGA) as well as to developed good passion for sport activities among students and staff.
After the opening address by the convener, the game started as fans were both singing and dancing in order to boost the morale of participants. In the Table Tennis event, the competition attracted six contestants representing six different Departments namely: Oladele Rotimi representing Demography Department, Oyenekan Peter representing Department of Computer science, Ayorinde Babatunde representing Department of Economics, Ayodeji Adebayo representing Department of Mathematics, Arogundade Taiwo representing Department of Psychology, and Ariyo owoola representing Department of Sociology. The game created a lot of excitement as each Department eulogized their representative. At the end of the game, Oyenekan Peter representing Department of Computer Science emerged the overall winner in the male category.
In the female category, only two representatives were on board. They were: Fabiyi Oluwakemi from Department of Psychology and Oyeronke Musilimat representing Department of Demography. Oyeronke Musilimat emerged the overall winner in this category.
The Assistant Coach of the University gave kudos to all the overall winners for their outstanding performances and encouraged them to always be a good representative of the Institution. He wished them greater success in their academic pursuits and careers.
On the part of staff, Mr Adeoye Jonathan from the Innovation Unit was the overall winner in the table tennis event. He defeated his counterpart from Physical Planning Unit. One of the finest records in the history of table tennis was the game between the grand winner of students competition – Oyenekan Peter and the grand winner of staff competition – Mr Adeoye Jonathan, in which Oyenekan peter emerged the overall winner. He was awarded a prize while other participants were also compensated.
In the Chess event, the game was inconclusive as both participants weral strength and none yielded no ground for the other to win.
Eleven (11) students and two (2)mem hers of staff participated in the Country Race. Christopher Emmanuel from Department of Economics emerged as the overall winner(male) while Amodu Khadijat Oluwadamilola from Department of Economics & Development study emerged as winner in the female category.
