The new Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Prof. Jeremiah Shola Omotola has been described as very loyal, pragmatic and result oriented person who can be trusted and relied upon. The Vice- Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina made this known at a Grand Reception conducted on Thursday March 11, 2021 by the Faculty of Social Sciences to appreciate him and thank the Vice-Chancellor for choosing from among their fold, a worthy person for the exalted oﬃce. “Professor Omotola is very loyal, pragmatic and his loyalty has paid oﬀ.
I am not regretting because I convinced the then Vice Chancellor Prof Soremekun to bring Omotola in because he is one of the best brains. On March 10,2021 I was at Ife and the Oni of Ife acknowledged my loyalty to the then Vice Chancellor and told told me that my loyalty has paid oﬀ. He (Oni of Ife) pledged to work with this administration to bring facilities to the university”. Continuing, Prof Fasina charged appointed Directors to be proactive, and pragmatic in the discharge of their duties. “I want all Directors to be proactive like Prof Shola (as I fondly call him) to ensure that this administration succeeds.
I have directed the Bursar to pay imprest and responsibility allowances every month to staﬀ. I have made available staﬀ bus that takes staﬀ to and fro Ado Ekiti and Oye. In three months’ time, the university staﬀ school will be available. Part-time programme has started, Sandwich will follow soon. All promotion issues will be sorted out on or before 29th March and we will have many professors and Readers.
In the next few months, faculty of social sciences building will be ready. I beg everyone to move and cooperate with us because all resources will be for staﬀ and students’ welfare. We will set up competitions for all faculties in all spheres. I cannot forget those who work hard and those who helped me. I thank you all and pray for God to celebrate us all in Jesus name, Amen.” the Vice Chancellor prayed. Speaking earlier during the reception, the Acting Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Rev Sister Dr Chika Asogwa expressed her very profound appreciation to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina and other management team present for taking time out of their very busy schedules to attend the occasion. “I want to appreciate the Vice Chancellor for his foresight and wisdom in the appointment of Prof Shola Omotola as the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) of the university” Rev Sister Chika said. The Acting Dean noted that Professor Omotola is the personiﬁcation of academic and administrative excellence as shown in the successes achieved during his tenure as the Head of Department of Political Science, the Director of Research and the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences. She, therefore, assured the Vice Chancellor and other members of the university community that Prof Omotola will be a core asset to the total transformation agenda of the Vice Chancellor.
Speaking further, Dr Asogwa stated that the appointment of Prof Omotola is a great indication of the Vice Chancellor’s love and support for the faculty of social sciences and shower encomium on Prof Omotola as an honest, pragmatic and progressive intellectual. She thanked the Vice Chancellor for the appointment of other members of the faculty into his transformational team which include Prof. Omolayo as Director, Counseling Unit, Prof Olaniyan as Director Advancement Centre, Dr. Azzez Omolade as Deputy Director Part-time programme, and Dr. Omole as Deputy Director Counseling unit. Responding, the Celebrant, Omotola expressed his unreserved appreciation to God for his grace over his life. He thanked the Acting Dean Faculty of Social Sciences Rev Sister Dr Chika Asogwa and other members of the faculty for their support and cooperation towards him whilst he was the Dean of the faculty and thanked all members of the faculty for the unimaginable honour given to him because he never knew that such thing was going to happen. “I want to thank you Rev Sister Dr Chika Asogwa for this reception and every member of this faculty. I pledge to be loyal, committed to the faculty because this is my primary constituency.
I beg for your support and prayers.” Speaking further, he appreciated the students for their cooperation and advised them to imbibe good morals and be focused to achieve their aims of coming to the university. He further advised them to emulate him and the Acting Dean of the faculty for them to be successful in life. The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), also, extended his appreciation to his pastor, Pastor J.E.D Olaleye and the Overseer of the church, Prof A. A. Adeloye from Ilorin, Kwara state. He thanked them for their prayers, spiritual and ﬁnancial support especially during his lengthy PhD programme at the University of Ibadan.
