QUALITY BEGINS WITH ME… PROF. OBINNA CHUKWU
The Academic Planning Unit held a one day workshop on Quality Assurance for all members of staff of the University. The theme of the workshop “Quality Assurance in higher education; issues and practices”. The convener of the workshop, Prof. Cecilia Akintayo, Director of Academic Planning, welcomed all and sundry to the event and declared the workshop open. The workshop which held on 25th September, 2019 at Faculty of Science Auditorium had as it guest speaker Prof. Obinna Chukwu, Director of Academic Planning, University of Lagos and former Director, Quality Assurance and SERVICOM unit, University of Lagos. During his lecture, he mentioned that ‘quality assurance are all the planned and systematic activities implemented to provide confidence that a product or service will fulfill and maintain”. He spoke extensively on quality assurance in higher education and explained models to ensure that quality is guaranteed in the institution.He proposed that the Vice-chancellor, Prof. Kayode Soremekun should establish a Quality Assurance Unit, that will enforce the Vision and Mission of Federal University Oye-Ekiti. He indulged everyone present at the event to have the conviction that “Quality begins with me” and this will be a driving force to be quality efficient. He also, mentioned that every member of FUOYE is an ambassador of the institution and thus, should ensure that the required quality is assured and delivered.

The Vice-chancellor, Prof. Kayode Soremekun in his opening address appreciated the guest speaker for taking time out of his busy schedule to honor the invitation and he his certain that this workshop will be very productive and educative because, quality is a watchword and it should not be taken with levity.

Also, in attendance at the workshop was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Fasina, University Librarian, Dr. Gbenga Adio, Dean Faculty of Science, Prof. S. Lawal and other stakeholders of the institution. They were also questions and answers session which showed that the workshop was very engaging and educating.
