The Counselling Services Unit of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) provides professional psychological, emotional, and developmental support to students in order to promote wellbeing, resilience, and academic success. The Unit is established to support students as they navigate the personal, social, emotional, and academic challenges associated with university life.
As a student-centred public institution, FUOYE recognises that mental health and emotional wellbeing are essential to effective learning and holistic development. Counselling Services therefore operates as a confidential, supportive, and professionally guided service designed to enhance students’ capacity to thrive academically and personally.
Scope
The scope of Counselling Services covers preventive, developmental, and responsive support for all students of the University, across faculties and levels of study.
Its scope includes:
▶Personal, academic, and emotional counselling
▶Career-related and decision-making support
▶Adjustment and transition counselling
▶Stress management and coping strategies
▶Behavioural guidance and psycho-social support
▶Preventive mental health education and awareness
The Unit works collaboratively with Student Affairs, Health Services, academic departments, and other relevant units to ensure a coordinated approach to student wellbeing.

To provide accessible, confidential, and professional counselling services that support students’ mental wellbeing, personal growth, and academic effectiveness.
Responsibilities, Services, and Duties
The Counselling Services Unit performs the following core responsibilities:
▶Supporting students experiencing academic stress, anxiety, or personal difficulties
▶Assisting students with career decision-making and personal development challenges
▶Conducting orientation and transition programmes for new students
▶Offering crisis intervention and referral services where necessary
▶Organising workshops and seminars on mental health, stress management, and life skills
▶Promoting awareness of emotional wellbeing and healthy coping strategies
▶Collaborating with relevant units to support student discipline, welfare, and reintegration
▶Maintaining professional ethical standards and confidentiality in service delivery
Through these services, the Unit ensures that students receive timely, respectful, and professional support.
