RESPONSIBLE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) POLICY

Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE)

1. Purpose

This Responsible AI Policy establishes the principles guiding the ethical design, deployment, and use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems across Federal University Oye-Ekiti’s academic, research, administrative, and digital platforms.
FUOYE is committed to leveraging AI to advance education, research, innovation, and operational efficiency while safeguarding human rights, fairness, transparency, and accountability.

2. Scope

This policy applies to:
✅AI-enabled systems used on FUOYE websites and platforms
✅AI tools used for teaching, learning, assessment, and research
✅AI used in admissions, analytics, automation, or decision support
✅Third-party AI solutions integrated into FUOYE systems

3. Core Principles of Responsible AI

a. Human-Centric Design AI systems shall augment, not replace, human judgment. Critical academic and administrative decisions must retain meaningful human oversight.
b. Fairness and Non-Discrimination FUOYE commits to preventing algorithmic bias related to gender, ethnicity, disability, religion, or socio-economic status.
c. Transparency and Explainability Where AI is used, its purpose and role shall be communicated clearly. Decisions influenced by AI should be explainable and auditable where feasible.
d. Privacy and Data Protection AI systems shall comply with applicable data protection laws, including NDPA and GDPR principles, ensuring lawful, minimal, and secure data usage.
e. Security and Robustness AI systems must be resilient to cyber threats, manipulation, and misuse. Secure development and deployment practices are mandatory.
f. Academic Integrity AI shall not undermine academic honesty. Its use in teaching, learning, and assessment must align with FUOYE’s academic integrity standards.

4. Prohibited Uses

AI systems must not be used for:
✅Unlawful surveillance or profiling
✅Automated decisions that significantly affect individuals without human review
✅Academic misconduct or plagiarism facilitation
✅Any use that violates FUOYE values or applicable laws

5. Governance and Oversight

FUOYE shall establish appropriate governance structures to:
✅Review AI deployments
✅Assess ethical, legal, and security risks
✅Ensure compliance with this policy

6. Review and Updates

This policy will be reviewed periodically to reflect technological, legal, and regulatory developments.
