Department of Anatomy

Welcome to the Department of Anatomy, the foundation of medical and biomedical education. The Department is dedicated to advancing knowledge of human structure and its relationship to function, health, and disease. Through rigorous academic instruction, laboratory dissection, histological analysis, and research training, students gain a deep understanding of the human body at macroscopic and microscopic levels. Our programmes foster scientific curiosity, ethical practice, and analytical precision, preparing graduates to contribute to medical education, research, and healthcare innovation locally and globally.

About the Programme

The Anatomy programme provides comprehensive training in gross anatomy, histology, embryology, neuroanatomy, and applied clinical anatomy. Students explore the structural organisation of the human body and its developmental processes, gaining insight into how anatomical knowledge informs medical diagnosis and surgical practice.

Teaching integrates lectures, cadaveric dissection, microscopy, digital anatomy platforms, and research-based learning. Emphasis is placed on anatomical accuracy, laboratory competence, and ethical standards in the handling of biological materials. The curriculum aligns with national medical education benchmarks and international best practices in anatomical sciences.

Programme Philosophy

The programme is founded on the principle that a thorough understanding of human structure is essential to safe and effective healthcare practice. It promotes scientific rigour, ethical responsibility, and precision in anatomical study. By integrating traditional dissection methods with modern imaging and digital technologies, the Department fosters deep conceptual understanding and practical competence.

Students are encouraged to develop critical thinking, research skills, and professional integrity. The philosophy emphasises lifelong learning and the responsible application of anatomical knowledge in clinical and research contexts.

Mission of the Department

To provide high-quality education and research in anatomical sciences that supports medical training, biomedical innovation, and advancement of healthcare practice.

Vision of the Department

To be a centre of excellence in anatomical education and research, recognised for academic distinction, ethical standards, and contributions to medical science.
